ABSTRACT

This study assessed the role of political science education in equipping youth for community development.  It specifically explore the impact of political science education on the civic engagement and political participation; impact of political science education on the youth empowerment program and the role of political science education on skills training and workshop among youth.

Descriptive survey research design was adopted in this study. The population was drawn from  Olabisi Onabanjo University. 200 respondents participated in the study. The research instrument used for the study was questionnaire. Data generated was analyzed, demographic data of the participant was analyzed using frequency distribution and percentage and mean with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences IBM SPSS version 24 software.

Findings from the study showed that political science education positively impact civic engagement and political participation of youth in Olabisi Onabanjo University; it also revealed that there was significant impact of political science education on the youth empowerment. Majority of respondents strongly agreed that political science education have significant impact of youth empowerment in Olabisi Onabanjo University and political science education play a positive role on the skills training and workshop of students of Olabisi Onabnjo University.

It can be concluded that there was positive significant impact of political science education in equipping youth for communication development. The findings recommended that there is need to engage youth in recreational activities that enhance social cohesion. This includes development of community based infrastructure, promoting arts, culture, sport and overall entertainment of youth. This will promote social and national integration of youth.
